12-11-2009 - JOIN LSC IN THE NEXT SOCCER DEVELOPMENT LEAGUE Join the Lauderdale Soccer Club in the upcoming 2009-10 Soccer Development League. To apply, download and complete the application here. 07-11-2009 - LAUDERDALE WINS THEIR FIRST GOLD COAST SOCCER LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP They have won State Cups, Tournaments, Classics and many other Soccer Leagues, but one title has been quite elusive for the Homeless. Today that all changed when the Lauderdale Soccer Club (LSC) Storm defeated long-time arch-rival and two-time Gold Coast Soccer League (GCSL) Champions Inter America F.C. to win the 2009 title. The Storm had defeated the former champions both times during the regular season and that built a confidence going into the final. A harder test was faced a week prior in the semi-finals where LSC beat Buccaneer F.C. for the first time this season to set up an historic championship game. In the end, LSC ran away in the final with a rout and the game was pretty much decided by halftime. The second half was merely a formality as the champagne and ticker tape was awaiting the final whistle to explode. After the match Storm coach Dr. Daniel Meeroff put everything in perspective, "This is something we've been striving for for almost ten years now. At the beginning of every season this is where we want to be. We've been on the other side of the scoresheet many times, but today the better team prevailed and the best team in the league won the league. Our sights are now set for a summer/fall campaign where we can rebuild and make this team stronger. Our new goal now is to defend a title we've worked so hard to achieve." 02-18-2007 - HOMELESS BATTLE BACK TO DRAW WITH THE CYNICAL BRAZILIANS The Homeless conceded on the very first play of the game, it was a Pedro Reyes own goal at the near post. From then on, the Squadra Azzura players flailed in agony every time the ball came near them and blasted every other ball over the fence. Looking a shadow of the team that bravely drew in midweek, the Homeless tried to claw their way back into the match, but several poor performances and lack of striking power condemned the hosts in the first half. Meeroff was forced to make wholesale changes in the second half to bolster the attack, and after loads of futile possession, Nick Horton equalized at the far post on a corner kick after his initial header was saved off the line. Horton, Alerte, and Abichared all had efforts saved in the late stages, but after Diego Rojas was sent off, Lauderdale settled for the point. 02-14-2007 - LSC DRAW WITH KILLESTER UNITED FROM IRELAND The Homeless played an international friendly in midweek as Killester United from Dublin Ireland, the reigning Premier A-League champions. Killester demolished Nova Southeastern at the weekend 5-0 and looked as if they would steam-roll the hosts under the lights at Mills Pond. After weathering the early storm, Lauderdale settled down nicely and played one of its most complete performances of the season. Against the run of play, Killester scored a controversial goal with seconds left in the first half, with appeals for offside going begging. In the second half, Lucas Azar and company created havoc in the Killester defense, but the well deserved equalizer came with 10 minutes left, as Jacquy Dieujuste chased down a ball along the left and acrobatically swung his left foot in midair to sweep home a brilliant goal. 02-11-2007 - HOPELESS HOMELESS BEATEN AT THE DEATH The Homeless traveled to Lantana to face a difficult fixture with three time champions, Island Strikers. Lauderdale started brightly although shorthanded once again. It looked as if the hosts respected the title holders too much and allowed Lauderdale to rush in time and again. Inside 10 minutes, the hosts had their goalkeeper sent off for a hand ball outside of the box that denied Junior Alerte an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Alerte blasted home the free kick to launch the visitors into the lead. From that point on, Lauderdale ceded control of the midfield to the Strikers and early in the second half, they equalized on a neat run and cross. With a disinterested Lauderdale pushing hopelessly forward, Island Strikers stole the gamewinner at the death. 02-04-2007 - RAMPANT LAUDERDALE PUT COOPER CITY TO THE SWORD The Homeless found their form today at home against bottom club Cooper City, despite the constant heavy downpour and the quagmire conditions at Sunview Park. LSC looked more comfortable on the ball with a new-look midfield and strikeforce. It took all of 22 minutes to break open the scoring. Rojas started the move into Lucas Azar who cleverly found Pedro Reyes who slid onto the shot that trickled into the empty net. Less than 10 seconds later, Reyes stole the kickoff and launched a penetrating ball that found a streaking Charles Alerte who tucked his shot into the corner before the Cooper City goaltender could get off his line. The third goal was a work of art. Again, Rojas was the playmaker finding a brilliant run from Reyes who turned quickly and picked out Azar for the clean finish. Azar was robbed moments later after weaving through the entire defense. Cooper City hit back with a penalty kick but Azar restored the three goal cushion on a breakaway after another beautiful long pass from Reyes. After the break, an officious Lauderdale really pushed for the next goal, but Becker Padilla hit the post and was stoned on two occasions by the Cooper City goaltender. Lauderdale would pick up a pair of insurance goals, including Nick Horton's first ever Lauderdale goal in a very business-like victory. Next up for the Homeless is a trip up north to visit Island Strikers. 01-28-2007 - LAUDERDALE BRING BACK A POINT FROM UM The Homeless have been struggling to find their form of late and they did not find it at the University of Miami IM fields this week. The visitors dominated the early stages and maintained their pressure on the Hurricanes but despite creating a boatload of chances, they could not convert. The best chances came from the foot of Orlando Lawrence who twice provoked fantastic saves from the Hurricane goaltender. The gigantic dimensions of the field clearly caused difficulty to Lauderdale's midfield passing game. In the second half, Meeroff brought on Junior Alerte, Jacquy Dieujuste, and Becker Padilla to bolster the attack. It paid dividends immediately with Becker finding big striker Lucas Azar in the 46th minute to hammer home from short range. The lead did not last long as a hopeful ball from deep in midfield eluded Diego Meeroff and Alfred Saintillus, and UM's Brain Ronot poked the ball past Joseph Kmetko and tapped home into the empty net to level the score. With Lauderdale completely ineffective and lacking accuracy in the midfield and lacking quality in the final third, UM slowly began to tilt the scales. In the end, Kmetko's brilliance kept out two clear chances for the Hurricanes, as the Homeless seemed satisfied with the point. 01-21-2007 - HOMELESS PHONE IN ANOTHER WIN Once again, a short-handed Lauderdale side went through the motions on the way to another three points away to United SC. The strike partnership of Dan Meeroff and Orlando Lawrence created danger but no clear scoring opportunities in a first half completely devoid of shots on goal. Diego Rojas had the best chance to open the visitor's account but he could not find a way past the towering figure of Hoetzel as his shot rebounded off the cross bar. The only other half chance of the first period came on Alerte's free kick that went wide. In the second half, Lauderdale looked almost disinterested until Lucas Azar received a perfect pass from Junior Alerte and drove it past Jason Hoetzel in United's goal on 63 minutes. The lead lasted only 10 minutes, when Marco Mikovic beat the offside trap and thundered a shot past Joseph Kmetko to restore the deadlock. Things did not look like getting better until Rojas drove through midfield and burst into the box before he was ruthlessly chopped down for an obvious penalty. Alerte took the honors and sent Hoetzel the wrong way. With 9 minutes to go, top scorer, Martin Pistoni smashed home from the left to put the game out of reach. Next week, the Homeless travel to face University of Miami. 01-14-2007 - LAUDERDALE BATTLE TO HEROIC DRAW Lauderdale's first major test of the campaign was this week against former champions, Boca SC, who are currently marching in third spot in the standings. The Homeless were short-handed and began the match with nine men, and promptly gave up the opener within the first five minutes. Martin Pistoni was dispossessed in his own half, which led to a counter attack that was cruelly finished by Gustavo Martinez. Shortly after, Sebastian Abirached crossed dangerously and the ball was spilled into the path of Becker Padilla, who inexplicably turned his shot wide. At this point, LSC was able to field eleven players, but the match turned physical as Boca tried to protect its lead. Coach Dan Meeroff, playing up front with sneakers, was pulled off in favor of bolstering the defense with the addition of late arriving Alfred Saintillus. LSC really took charge as they forced the issue to climb back into the match. Lauderdale drew level on the half hour mark when Mustapha Abba created havoc in the box and Josh Petro finished clinically for his second goal in as many matches. At the close of the half, Martin Pistoni broke free and should have put the hosts in charge but his final strike was wide. The second half, Boca SC really poured on the pressure, and LSC tried to soak it up with magnificent goaltending from Joseph Kmetko and his back four. On 73 minutes, all looked lost when the match official pointed to the spot on an innocuous challenge in the penalty area, but Kmetko came up with a brilliant save and then a second as LSC were looking desperate and clinging to the point. Five minutes later, the hosts were behind when Andres Castano rifled a low shot that eluded Kmetko at the near post. Just when all seemed lost, Padilla burst through the Boca defense and was ruthlessly brought down in the box. Pistoni took the honors and leveled the score. Orlando Lawrence was nearly unstoppable as he forced his way in shooting positions all afternoon but could not get past the swarming Boca defense to shoot. Petro nearly stole all three points in stoppage time with a diving header, but it was not to be. At the final whistle, a brave Lauderdale side, leaving all they had on the field, probably should have sealed the victory, but instead they keep their undefeated record heading into next weeks tie with United FC. 01-07-2007 - LAUDERDALE BRING IN THE NEW YEAR WITH THREE POINTS After dispatching of both Lynn sides in successive weeks, the Homeless entered the Holiday break on top of the league, but how would they play after a four week layoff was the question. Lauderdale certainly looked the part of regular season champions in the early going when captain, Jacquy Dieujuste, rattled the crossbar inside four minutes, but the Homeless never really got their game on track. At the other end, Joseph Kmetko had no work to do. The breakthrough came on 41 minutes, when Josh Petro thundered a shot from long distance that the Professionals FC goaltender turned into his own net. With the infusion of fresh energy from Bryan Meyer and Junior Alerte, LSC started the second half brightly and were unfortunate not to extend their lead, but insurance would come on 62 minutes, when Alerte crossed brilliantly to Lucas Azar who nodded in from close range. Seconds later, the Homeless were reduced to 10 men when Azar was harshly judged and sent off. The Professionals managed to cut the lead in half on a defensive error but would get no closer despite nearly equalizing after ignoring the rules of Fair Play when Lauderdale kicked the ball out after a Professionals player limped off injured. Lauderdale escaped a nervous stoppage time burst of energy from the hosts to collect their third road victory of the campaign. 12-03-2006 - HOMELESS WITH CLASSY DEBUT IN GOLD COAST Lauderdale Soccer Club began defense of its regular season Gold Coast title with a visit to Lynn Soccer Club. In the off season, Lauderdale retained its SDL Stage 2 Championship with a 3-1 victory over Palm Beach Pumas of the Premier Development League of the USL. The Homeless have a new youthful look as they hope to reload and capture the Gold Coast League title for the first time in club history. In last season's championship finale, the Homeless carried a 3-1 lead into the final ten minutes, only to succumb to nerves and end up on the wrong side of a 4-3 scoreline to Palm Beach FC. Away to Lynn, Lauderdale hoped to erase the demons of last season and get going early, but a dizzying array of near misses would haunt them in the first half. Finally on 35 minutes, Diego Rojas burst through on the left and was cut down in the box by Lynn's outstanding goaltender. Junior Alerte stepped up to take the spotkick but it would ricochet off the left post and bounce harmlessly out of bounds. Seconds later, a long clearance caught Lauderdale's new-look defense flat-footed, and Fernando Villalobos snuck in to lift the ball over the on-rushing Joseph Kmetko as Lynn took the lead against the run of play. Two more long range efforts from Alerte on a free kick and from Sebastian Abirached were tipped over the bar spectacularly to preserve Lynn's narrow margin. All told, the half ended with Lauderdale squandering 8 clear scoring chances. The second half began just as the first half ended, with Lynn thwarting chance after chance with great goalkeeping and timely goal line clearances from its defenders, but it was only a matter of time. Finally in the 67th minute, Alerte weaved through the Lynn defense and blasted his shot into the roof of the net off the crossbar from close range after leaving three defenders in his wake. The long deserved equalizer sparked a ferocious Lauderdale assault. Seconds later, Dieujuste was sent in alone but could not find the finishing touch. So it was left to Alerte, who entered along the left and served dangerously to the front post, where debutant Martin Pistoni smashed home his first of the season to restore normalcy to the scoreline. From then it became a feeding frenzy. Alerte scored a breathtakingly beautiful goal from the corner kick off the post ("Gol Olimpico") in the 73rd minute. Then Pistoni added his second on a goal mouth scramble that squirted in as the Lynn GK fell to his right. Lauderdale were really pouring on the style now. Both Orlando Lawrence and Josef Janikovic came close to adding to the lopsided tally. Then a perfect cross from the left found Josh Petro to head home but he was brought down for a penalty kick. Pistoni finished off the play for his first hat-trick with the club, but Lauderdale were not satisfied yet. Second half substitute, Bryan Meyer, orchestrated a brilliant move along the right corner of the box and slipped a pass to debutant, Pedro Reyes, who finished clinically at the near post for his first ever Lauderdale goal. And then it was left to Jacquy Dieujuste to put the finishing touches on a glorious fightback. The big fullback burst through the offside trap and outran the Lynn defense to tuck away his first of the season at the near post. Next week, Lauderdale will face Lynn United next week at Sunview Park. 06-04-2006 - HOMELESS IN THE FINALS! The regular season champions met fourth seeded Island Strikers on a rainy afternoon for a berth in the Gold Coast Soccer League championship game. After a long 2 hour lightening delay, LSC took to the field for a tense opening stanza. The Strikers had much of the play in midfield but could not mount any pressure on Jimmy Middleton thanks to the solid defending of Ran Pollicker, Fredel Cherubin, Oerjan Stroekens, and Andreas Heggelund. Up top, the "Homeless" showed flashes of brilliance, a hint of things to come. A delicious through ball from Josh Petro to the tireless Diego Rojas was intercepted just in the nick of time, and Roody Lormera dribbled around the back of the defense but his pull back cross was tipped away at the last moment. Both Rojas and Bryan Meyer worked extremely hard in midfield but for all the possession, they had very little to show for it. At the end of the first 45 minutes, neither side looked like scoring a goal and the deadlock persisted. However, on the other side of halftime, things changed rather quickly. On 48 minutes, Sidky pierced the offside trap along the left and fired a low cross to strike partner Roody Lormera. Open for an instant, the elegant forward controlled the ball, slotted it passed the sprawled keeper, and celebrated with his now customary kiss. The Island Strikers responded like champions and surged forward but could not get close enough to Middleton to mount a threat. On 61 minutes, Lormera tormented the Strikers once again, pouncing on a broken play to burst through the defense and smash home his second kiss. With desperation mounting, Island Strikers poured forward but the Homeless held their nerve, and second half substitute Daniel Mentor who had missed tragically only moments earlier, booked Lauderdale's place in the finals with a burst of speed and then a slalom run through the heart of the defense. He clinically tapped home after rounding the keeper to end all hopes of a Island Strikers fightback. With the win, LSC qualify for the championship game next week against Palm Beach FC who defeated Croatia by 1-0 in the other semifinal. It was Middleton's second straight shutout and the team's 7th of the campaign. Lormera's double gives him 20 goals on the season, tied for the team lead with Sidky.
The "Homeless" were inspired by their 9-1 thrashing of Lynn University the previous week, which catapulted the side into the 2006 GCSL playoffs as one of the top two seeds. Guaranteed of finishing the regular season no lower than second in the standings, LSC traveled to face the holders, Boca Raton SC. The champions have found life difficult this season and will finish in one of the bottom two places; a stark contrast to Lauderdale, who have risen to new heights this season with their best ever point total and goal difference in their 8 years in the league. With their place in the playoffs already secured, the "Homeless" boasted a new look starting line-up with GK Saeben Gagnon playing his last match but at striker, Sidky as the playmaker, and Jimmy Middleton between the pipes. The match started comfortably for the visitors as they enjoyed the lion's share of the possession. Goal scoring chances were difficult to come by due to the short dimensions of the field. On 20 minutes, LSC got the breakthrough. A long cross from the left found Chris Zelaya stretching at the far post to turn it back inside gloriously for Sidky to smash into the near post on the full volley. Moments later, the hard tackling home side were dealt another blow as Alex Contreras crossed a viciously hit corner that deflected into the goal. In the second half, Lauderdale had the luxury of dipping into the bench to pull off several late arriving starters to replace the weary legs of the group that staked the Homeless to a two-goal lead. Within moments the matter was settled. Diego Rojas, who replaced Saeben Gagnon up front, burst through the defense and curled a beautiful strike into the top corner off the post, and after a now customary LSC celebration (a kiss for the wife), Lauderdale scored again within 15 seconds as Petro stole a ball at midfield and set Sidky free all alone to tuck into the side netting for his team-high 20th netter of the season. So Middleton and substitute Chad Stanford combined for LSC's 6th shutout of the campaign. With this result, Lauderdale end up with the third highest scoring total with 63 goals, and the league's stingiest defense, surrendering only 27 goals in twenty matches, defending their "best defense" title earned last season. A final look at the standings shows our heroes at the top of the table with a 14-3-3 record (45 points). Lauderdale, who were never in the top spot at any point in the campaign, finish up the regular season in first place going up two points clear of Croatia who suffered a 3-2 setback to United Aerospace on the last match day. So the "Homeless" will face #4 Island Strikers at 4PM next Sunday in Coral Springs for the semi-finals. The other bracket will feature Croatia and the All Blacks of Palm Beach Football Club.
The "Homeless" followed up last week's dominant performance with another efficient victory in the final "home" game of the season at Coral Springs' North Springs Field. The conditions were perfect for a spectacular game of football. The two teams entered the contest tied on points with 33 and locked in a battle for the third seed in the playoffs. LSC have never lost on Mother's Day since the inception of the club 11 years ago, and LSC were expecting, but their captain Junior Alerte was ill. Fortunately, the strike partnership of Roody Lormera and Orlando Lawrence (playing in place of the suspended Seif Sidky) caused all sorts of problems for Paradise. Lauderdale looked well-positioned at the back and were hardly troubled, and on 23 minutes a brilliant move started with Junior Alerte who found Josh Petro with his back to goal. The tall midfielder lifted the ball one touch into the path of Lormera who scooped the ball over the prone goalkeeper to stake his side into the lead. Lormera would have another chance when Bryan Meyer chased a ball into the deep right corner and crossed magnificently to Lormera, but his header was wasted wide. Moments later, Jacqui DeJuste missed wildly with his right boot. Then Oerijan Stroekens lifted a ball perfectly in stride for Petro who let it run to Dejuste, but another missed opportunity. A breakaway from Lawrence and another slalom run from Lormera also missed, and Lauderdale were suffering for that all important second goal. At the other end, for all their possession, Soccer Paradise could only get close on long range blasts that were easy pickings for Gagnon. In the meantime, LSC picked up 4 yellow cards including 3 of the 4 fullbacks. Into the second half, the visitors picked it up a notch and Lauderdale began to fade in the intense heat. Suddenly it seemed that second half substitutes, Ran Pollicker and Daniel Mentor would link up and find the final dagger, but again another near miss. The visitors threatened a bit with the silky skills of Gerardo Torres and Santiago Rodriguez in midfield, but when Torres was sent off for a violent challenge on Diego Rojas, it seemed the "Homeless" would find a way to steer the game home. Mentor and DeJuste would both come close again, but the best chance of the day came in second half stoppage time, when Petro curled a right-footed blast but the Paradise goalkeeper turned it around the post for a corner. As the whistle blew, it was another huge three points for the playoff bound "Homeless," who also mathematically eliminated arch-rivals United Aerospace from post-season contention. Next week, LSC hope to continue the trend against Lynn United.
After last week's wake-up call, the Homeless came
out with something to prove. Having six starters returning to action also helped
as LSC put together a dominant and workmanlike performance, worthy of a
championship contender. The game could not have started better as captain Junior
Alerte chipped GK Kemar Condell from long range inside the game's first 2
minutes. The goal energized his team and helped settle LSC's nerves. The hosts
struck back but found a well organized back line in their way. The Strikers used
their incredible pace to cause worry but GK Saeben Gagnon was quick off his line
on several occasions to come to his defense's rescue. Lauderdale were
unfortunate to not grab another goal as Alerte curled a brilliant mid-range
effort that rebounded off the "V." Then Damian "Gremo" Hurge struck the post for
the hosts and another goal was disallowed for offside. On 35 minutes, Roody
Lormera rounded the goalkeeper and blasted what was surely the second but for a
brilliant goal line clearance. Then Bryan Meyer scored a header but it was
disallowed for offside. As the half drew to a close a seemingly harmless ball
from the right caught the Homeless defense wrong-footed. Samuel Jackson neatly
slotted home just past Gagnon's foot to equalize. In the second half, the
tireless workrate of Diego Rojas, Josh Petro and Meyer neutralized the Strikers
midfield. Then Alerte set up striker partner, Lormera for a 3-on-2 break that
ended with the ball in the back of the net. "El Goleador" tucked his shot away
and raced to the sidelines to give his wife a kiss. Almost ten minutes later,
Lauderdale's swarming attack had another near miss. Add to that clear chances
from Ran Policker, Rojas, Orlando Lawrence, and Lormera. It looked like LSC
would regret those misses, but another Lormera breakaway would seal the deal.
The lightening quick striker rounded the goalkeeper and was ruthlessly cut down
as he maneuvered to score. He calmly put the spotkick away to earn himself
LSC received a rude going away present from United Aerospace, who thoroughly routed the Homeless on their final home game of the season. Now with their playoff chances hanging in the balance, LSC must go on the road for a 5-game odyssey to secure their place in the top four. The game started out well enough when Sidky was brought down for a penalty, converted by Alerte, but Aerospace immediately drew level with a fantastic goal from 20 yards out. Then Lormeda took a short corner kick and blasted a low shot to put the Homeless back in front. Once again the celebration lasted very little as United Aerospace drew level within two minutes. Then just before the break, Lauderdale's none-existent defending allowed another goal, and to make matters worse, Sidky was sent off for a brutal retaliation (leaving his participation for the rest of the regular season in doubt, pending the suspension). So down a goal and down a man, Lauderdale entered the second half. They had been there before, but today Lauderdale had no answer for the Aerospace. They scored twice more in the second half and thoroughly dominated the proceedings. The Homeless picked the worst possible day to fail to show up, and now they have a tough road to climb to get back into playoff position. Next week, they face Island Strikers, a team they have never defeated in 12 tries.
Buoyed by the midweek victory against Lynn, the "Homeless" had to face United FC on just one day's rest, but this fixture earlier in the year had seen the United go down by 8-0 in Lauderdale's most lopsided victory of the campaign so far. It did not take long for Lauderdale's supremacy to show on the scoreboard. After 19 minutes, Dieujuste played Lormera near the touchline along the left. He cruised past his marker and stormed in on goal. Nearly running out of real estate, he fired from barely 1 yard out against a stationary GK Jason Hetzel. LSC's own GK Saeben Gagnon was forced into a couple of difficult saves but made them look routine. Then ten minutes later, a pretty ball from Alerte bounced perfectly for Sidky who reached it just before Hetzel's fingertips could snatch it away. The big striker finished into the empty net, as LSC's forward partners, on pace for twenty goals apiece, both made amends for their midweek finishing woes. Just before the break, Hetzel injured his hand in a collision with his defender and the ball, which landed fortuitously to Petro for his first goal since February 5th. In the second half, LSC made wholesale changes, and the side came out sluggishly. United jumped out with renewed vigor and grabbed a consolation goal after second half substitute GK Chad Stanford tipped a dangerous cross into the path of former Homeless, Renato Spanu for an empty net tap-in. Lauderdale roared back with a delicious penetrating ball from JC Penagos into the path of an onrushing Bryan Meyer who wrongfooted the United goaltender and finished cleanly into the side netting. On 78 minutes, Diego Rojas probed forward along the right and crossed beautifully to Milli Pasic, who posed for the cameras before blasting a picture-perfect side-volley into the empty net with his right for his first ever goal wearing the red and white. Just moments from time, Meyer chased a ball into the left corner and felt he was fouled. The official did not agree and kept playing, but rather than lose composure, Meyer timed his run perfectly and leaped above the defense to smash home a towering header off a gorgeous feed from Orlando Lawrence. That goal finished the scoring and gave Meyer three tallies in the last two matches. With the win, Lauderdale sweep the season series with a combined score of 14-1. Next up for the Homeless is their final home game of the season at Sunview against a tricky United Aerospace side that drew them earlier in the year. After that, the Homeless take to the road for their final 5 remaining matches in their quest to secure a playoff berth in the 2005/2006 edition of the Gold Coast Soccer League First Division.
Lauderdale put together a dominant performance to exact a measure of revenge against a classless Croatia side currently looking down from the top of the table. The Homeless were eager to get back to their winning ways after overlooking FC Internaxionale the week before. They also were motivated to pay the Croatians back for that lopsided defeat handed to them earlier in the season. The Homeless started brightly with both Seif Sidky and Roody Lormera missing great chances inside the first ten minutes. Both strikers pulled their shots just wide of the post. Then Bryan Meyer could have taken the lead after he latched onto a Junior Alerte service, but his header went high. Later midfield engine, Josh Petro had a near miss. Not to be outdone, Junior Alerte sidefooted two defenders but lifted his blast over the bar. It appeared that the Homeless would regret not making the most of their early chances. Croatia began to assert themselves with a series of free kicks. One of those struck the crossbar as Saeben Gagnon could not get out of the sand trap to turn it aside. Finally Lauderdale were on the board on 37 minutes. A corner kick from the right side was partially cleared to midfield. Jacqui Dieujuste outraced his Croatian counterpart to the ball and made a nifty give and go with Petro to penetrate the defense. With nerves of steel, he calmly picked out Seif Sidky's near post run, and the big striker made no mistake, bursting the back of the net. In the second half, the oppressive heat and the physical play of Croatia took its toll as Lauderdale began to fade. The tireless efforts of Petro and Bryan Meyer in midfield kept LSC in the match. An epic battle between Daniel Mentor and Juan Velez, who was called for a game-high 27 fouls, ended in tragedy for the hosts. Mentor was sent off after being ruthlessly tackled in midfield, and the Homeless were forced to play the rest of the way with ten men. Even with ten, the Homeless kept their poise, and Croatia really only threatened during set pieces. At the death, Darrin Karuzas, was sent off for Croatia for extreme foul language towards the referee. With parity restored, Lauderdale returned to the offensive and were unlucky not to score after a wonderful move by Diego Rojas. In the end, Sidky found some space at the top of the box and picked out the far corner with a bounding strike from 25 meters away to seal Lauderdale's famous victory with his team-high 15th goal of the campaign. Next up for the Homeless is a return date with Palm Beach FC who currently sit alone in first place.
Lauderdale came home after a long and successful month away from home, but they faced FC Internaxionale eager to avenge a 5-1 thumping on the opening day of the campaign. Inter have been surging and the "Homeless" were well rested but started out rusty. Striker Roody Lormera missed two easy goals from inside the six yard box, one with his right foot and the other with his head. Then Inter gained confidence and troubled Gagnon, who was forced into action on two occasions. LSC were plagued with imprecision, their Achilles heel all season long, and allowed the visitors to take charge of the game. On the stroke of halftime, Kevin Young received a ball wide open on the right after Diego Rojas got tangled up in his own cleats. Young measured his shot and crushed it between Gagnon's legs. Barely a minute gone in the second half and the visitors doubled their advantage. A long cross from the left was misjudged by Steve Isett, and guess who lay waiting...again it was Kevin Young to smash home a bullet that burst the back of the net. Lauderdale responded but the near misses continued. The starters gave way, as Coach Meeroff moved his pieces searching for an answer to the puzzle. The bench provided a huge lift, as Lauderdale made an enormous effort to pull themselves back in it, and Gagnon was reduced to a spectator for the rest of the half as the Homeless laid siege to Inter's goal. Nine minutes from time, Junior Alerte set up Seif Sidky off a set piece to bang home from 19 yards out and make the final breathless moments interesting. But Lauderdale could get no closer and dropped all three points at home for the first time this season. As the Homeless drop further in the standings, the playoffs are looking more and more distant. Times are becoming desperate for the red and white stripes, and next week the Homeless host Croatia who defeated them earlier in the year by a score of 4-1.
Lauderdale started the game shorthanded but looked the brighter of the two sides. The Sidky-Meeroff partnership up front gave Cooper City all it could handle in the early going. A give-and-go between the attacking duo led to the game's first chance, but Meeroff's aim was not sharp and his effort was high and wide. A pair of half chances later we remained scoreless. LSC were in the mood but could not make the breakthrough. At the other end, a corner kick from Cooper City ended up with a header against the post, but the deadlock remained. Lauderdale had a near miss on a set piece of their own on 35 minutes. A Meeroff corner found Nelson Esteves alone to shoot from the top of the box. Josh Petro deflected the shot just inches from the post. On 40 minutes, Meeroff was substituted (thigh injury), and Sidky immediately took things into his own hands. A brilliant through ball from Mili Pasic found the big striker alone in front of goal, but his shot was saved. Seconds later, the Homeless were in front, as Sidky made amends. He received the ball high on the left, then surged towards the right of goal, and fired into the back corner of the goal across his body. Moments after the break, Dieujuste found Sidky on a throw-in. The inspirational striker swiveled perfectly to set up his favorite right foot. He fired a ferocious shot that deflected off center back Dirk Hilliard and fooled the goalkeeper for his second of the game. The two goal lead evaporated less than one minute later, when Dieujuste was called for a penalty kick. Jarmaine Barclay banged the spot kick in off the crossbar, as Stevenson Jean conceded his first goal for LSC. Bryan Meyer and the other front runners had several chances to tack on another goal, but LSC looked to be fading in the late stages. Then came Junior Alerte to the rescue. A brilliant flick in midfield set the burly striker free to rifle home a long range blast in off the post for a spectacular goal. Again the celebrations were shortlived as Cooper City got one back less than 60 seconds later. This time a Barclay cross was met by substitute Derek Walker to redirect into the near post. The late stages were hard-fought and physical, but Lauderdale held their nerve and sealed all three points away from home for their second consecutive away victory.
Soccer Paradise took the league by storm but have fallen on hard times of late, but the "Homeless" have not had an away victory against a quality opponent in more than two seasons. With the bye week approaching, Lauderdale needed all three points to keep pace with the league leaders. LSC looked focused early and played well from the start. They were unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty kick on the game's first play when Diego Rojas was tripped by the goalkeeper inside the first minute. On 20 minutes, big striker Seif Sidky forced a turnover in the attacking third. Playmaker Josh Petro cleverly slipped the loose ball to Daniel Mentor who glided past two defenders, burst through the defense, and fired into the side netting with his left foot. On 31 minutes, Roody Lormeda fed the ball to Diego Rojas who stormed up the left side, rounded the goalkeeper and finished clinically. The hosts battled back and nearly stole one back when the center forward (who looked suspiciously offside) clipped the ball over Lauderdale's debutant goaltender, Stevenson Jean. As the ball dropped towards goal, centerback Fredel Cherubin dove miraculously to clear it out of danger. In the second half, the play was marred by brutal tackling from behind as the hosts tried to claw their way back into it, but they found the well organized defense marshaled by Steve Isset, Nelson Esteves, Fredel Cherubin, and Jacqui Dieujuste to be too difficult to penetrate. And even when they found a way through, Stevenson Jean was magnificent and sure-handed in goal. It seemed that the game's next goal would decide the outcome, and fortunately for the visitors, it fell with 15 minutes left to play. Dieujuste picked up a loose ball near the top of the box and swiveled through a nasty challenge, but as he maneuvered to strike the ball, he was ruthlessly taken out by a defender. Sidky took care of the spotkick to put the "Homeless" up 3-0. With 5 minutes to go, Milli Pasic made a fantastic cross-field pass that cut open the Soccer Paradise defense. The ball set Sidky free to go in alone (one of many breakaways that Lauderdale let slip away on the day), but this time, the Paradise goalkeeper made a Miami Dolphins style tackle just outside the box and was sent off. Lauderdale held on for their second consecutive shutout (a streak of 204 minutes without conceding), and Stevenson Jean's first ever career shutout. Next up for Lauderdale is the bye week, which signals the end of the first half of the season with the "Homeless" currently occupying the third spot on the table, just one point back of the leaders.
On a cold and windy afternoon, the "Homeless" looked ready to play from the opening whistle, but the champions (Boca SC) pinned LSC in their own end for much of the early going. Unable to get out on the break due to the strong breeze, Lauderdale settled for keeping possession and keeping the Boca attack at bay. On 21 minutes, Andres Castano pierced the offside trap but pulled his shot just inches wide. Then a couple of nervous moments as the wind played tricks on LSC goaltender, Saeben Gagnon, but LSC kept the sheet clean going into the break. In the second half, Lauderdale enjoyed the lion's share of the possession with the wind at their backs, but could not find a way to penetrate the tightly packed Boca defense. In a match marred by physical play, 10 yellow cards, and countless fouls, it appeared that the breakthrough would only come on a mistake. On 82 minutes, midfield general, Josh Petro made an ambitious diagonal pass from deep within his own half. The ball eluded the last defender and fell to Roody Lormeda. The big striker stormed in on goal, rounded the goalkeeper, and tapped home. Moments later, the lead nearly doubled as Diego Rojas struck the crossbar on a long range effort. Boca charged back with the heart of a champion, but Lauderdale held their nerve, with an outstanding performance from the back line, bringing in their second shutout of the season.
A disturbing trend is becoming apparent as Lauderdale slip farther down the table. The inability to protect the lead will be the reason why the "homeless" fall short again this season. Playing without their midfield dynamo (Diego Rojas), a listless Lauderdale floundered all over the field. Bottom of the table, United Aerospace took advantage and troubled Saeben Gagnon repeatedly. A pair of brilliant saves and a goal line clearance followed by some woodwork, kept LSC in the game. But on 21 minutes, Stevenson Jean found some space on the left and tapped to Josh Petro for his first goal of the campaign. Then a lovely ball from Petro found Junior Alerte alone on the left to smash home only his second goal of the season. Firmly in the lead, it began to slip away immediately. A pair of breakaway goals on either side of halftime from Steve Arbruceau and Mark Pizzullo brought United Aerospace level. LSC's mighty guns (Sidky and Lormeda) were silent and no where to be found. Unable to keep possession and unable to disrupt the opponents, LSC failed to impress and were unable to summon the forces to win the match. In the end, they found themselves clinging desperately to the point that they certainly did not deserve. Next week, the "Homeless" face the title holders (Boca SC), who beat them twice last season.
As usual, Lauderdale started the match slowly and were a goal down inside the first minute, when Steve Ruff was left alone at the back post to nod home a Miguel Lemming service from the right. Lauderdale fought back and were denied by the crossbar on a Junior Alerte free kick. The All Blacks put LSC under pressure with a tireless and reckless work rate. They challenged every ball with their hard, physical style, but in the second half, a different Lauderdale appeared. Sidky and Lormeda were looking dangerous and getting on the end of service from Alerte and Mentor. Finally the equalizer came on 61 minutes. Mentor charged down the left flank and swiveled to Sidky who turned and burst the net from 22 meters. Then tragedy struck. Midfield engine, Diego Rojas was dismissed for laughing at a referee decision, leaving his side with just 10 men for the duration. The Homeless shrugged off the adversity and mounted a fierce attack. An inspired Mentor beat his marker to the line and served dangerously across the box for Lormeda to head home. He nearly doubled the lead when he pounced on a loose ball, rounded the keeper, but his shot was deflected away by a defender. Then Lormeda found some space on the left and tucked away a neat finish to put LSC up 3-1 inside the final 10 minutes. The All Blacks mounted a fierce response, and after Joshua Petro conceded a penalty, Ben Vanderploeg put PB in shouting distance. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, LSC could not clear and Miguel Lemming pounced on the ball at the top of the box and fired the equalizer through traffic to steal the point against the run of play.
Lauderdale
started nervously after being thrashed the week
before, and missed a couple of chances that would have sent them on their way.
On 21 minutes, Seif Sidky was ruthlessly fouled in the box, and he converted the
spot kick himself to open the scoring. Moments later, Lormeda was brought on as
a substitute, along with captain, Junior Alerte. The duo proved to be the
difference, as right away a sensational pass from Joshua Petro found Lormeda who
pierced the offside trap and steamed in on goal. After some fancy footwork, it
was 2-0. Then Alerte was brought down as he was about to score, so Lormeda
stepped up to convert the penalty into a 3-0 scoreline going into the break. On
the other side of halftime, Sidky scored from a breakaway after some lovely
interplay with Danielsen and midfield general,
Lauderdale were up against mighty Croatia, loaded with former MLS talent, and it did not take long for them to assert themselves. On 20 minutes, "Sneaky" Pete Marino (formerly of Columbus Crew) burst through the Lauderdale defense to slot home his first of two. On 35 minutes, center back Steve Isset was brought down by his shorts, but the referee played on as the ball landed to Marino to double the Croatian lead. The controversy did not end there. Early in the second half, the devilish Marino steamed in goal on a breakaway, but as he approached, GK Saiben Gagnon made a magnificent effort to poke the ball away for a corner kick. Unexplainably, the match official pointed to the spot, and despite getting both gloves to the ball, Gagnon could not keep it out. The Croatians grabbed a fourth goal and the result was no longer in doubt. Junior Alerte was brought down in the box for the fourth time, and finally the referee signaled for a penalty, which was converted by Seif Sidky for the final 4-1 scoreline. 01-08-2006 - ROODY DOUBLE SAVES LAUDERDALE BLUSHES After a 4 week layoff, Lauderdale returned to the field to face bottom club, Cooper City. The rust was obvious as Lauderdale struggled mightily, but "The Homeless" drew first blood, when Lormeda crossed to Sidky for his 4th of the campaign on 22 minutes. Would the one goal lead be enough, with Lauderdale hemorrhaging goals at an alarming rate, of late? After the break, Lauderdale conceded twice from a pair of howlers from normally dependable Nelson Esteves that allowed the City to take an improbable 2-1 lead. The equalizer on 52 minutes was a magnificent dipping strike from 30 yards that fooled GK Saiben Gagnon, and the second goal was a comical distraction after a throw-in on 61 minutes. When all appeared lost, Lormeda came to the rescue. A perfect penetrating pass from Junior Alerte allowed the speedy striker to steam in and finish clinically to tie the score on 67 minutes. Then he repeated the feat not ten minutes later, again roaring past the left side of the defense to tuck away the gamewinner. After that, Lauderdale held on to the lead and all three points to remain two points adrift of the league leaders and earn their first victory of the new year. 12-19-2005 - 10-MAN LAUDERDALE EARN HEROIC POINT "The Homeless" faced three-time Gold Coast champions, Island Strikers, who were brandishing a star-studded lineup. Lauderdale began nervously and were dealt a massive blow when Jacqui Dieujuste was given his marching orders after his second bookable offense. Shortly after, Island Strikers were awarded a dubious penalty, but Saben Gagnon swallowed up the spot kick to keep the game scoreless. Within minutes, though, Island Strikers were in front, after a looping ball eluded Gagnon, and Nelson Esteves could not keep the ball out of Lauderdale's net. Not two minutes later, Junior Alerte's perfect pass found a streaking Sidky on the right to fire the "Homeless" back on level terms. After the break, Lauderdale poured on the pressure and countered the Strikers' fierce pace with clever passing and dangerous counter attacks. LSC threatened but the match appeared destined for a draw, until a phantom free kick led to the Island Strikers' second goal. With 10 minutes to play, Junior Alerte picked up a pass from Sidky and steamed in on goal. He fired a close-range snap shot with the outside of his right boot that swerved in off the goalkeeper's fingertips to restore the deadlock. With seconds left on the clock, Lauderdale were robbed of the gamewinner as a quick free kick goal was inexplicably disallowed. A weary and heroic Lauderdale grabbed a share of the spoils although they felt they should have earned all three. Lauderdale stand in second place after two weeks going into the holiday break. 10-09-2005 - LAUDERDALE DEBUT WITH IMPRESSIVE VICTORY "The Homeless" opened their 2005/06 Gold Coast Soccer League campaign with a rout of rivals FC Internaxionale. A pair of doubles from Roody Lormeda and Seif Sidky in the first half, silenced the Internaxionales and helped Lauderdale avenge its only loss of the SDL Stage 2. In the second half, Lauderdale put an exclamation point on its debut when Daniel Mentor smashed home the fifth off a breakaway. 10-09-2005 - LAUDERDALE TAKE TOP SPOT IN THE STANDINGS "The Homeless" needed a victory to leapfrog unbeaten Palm Beach Football Club (PFC) and claim hold of the top spot in the standings. PFC opened the day at the top of the table, but surging Lauderdale have been on impressive form after defeating the champions (MAC) in week 5. The tense match began with Lauderdale looking the part, but the fantastic goalkeeping of PFC's Joby Slay kept the Lauderdale strikers at bay. After soaking up most of the pressure, the Palm Beach defense finally gave way when Junior Alerte placed a surgical pass in the path of a streaking Roody Lormeda who split his markers, side-stepped Slay, and finished into the empty net. The All Blacks fought back and were awarded a penalty kick in first half stoppage time, but Lauderdale's Jason Hoetzel turned the spotkick aside to keep his team in front going into the break. On the other side of halftime, Alerte found Seif Sidky cruising down the right flank and put a perfect ball into his path. The Egyptian striker smashed home a volley to double LSC's lead. On 55 minutes, Alerte again found his teammates with a perfect pass in the path of Diego Rojas. The diminutive winger crossed tantalizingly to Lormeda to head home from close range. Moments later a rampant Lauderdale put together a set of 10 consecutive passes ending with Clebson Dasilva to tap in a rebound off the post from 8 yards out. To their credit, the Football Club continued to attack and were finally rewarded in second half stoppage time, when Glen James fired a magnificent free kick that swerved around Lauderdale's hastily prepared wall and into the top corner. With the victory, LSC dethrone PB Football Club from the top spot in the standings. 10-05-2005 - LAUDERDALE SURGES IN STAGE 2
"The Homeless" bounced back from an early defeat to
hand the Miami Athletic Club (Stage 1 champions) their first defeat since June.
LSC used a well-organized short passing game to exploit gaps in the MAC defense
and opened the scoring early on a glancing header from Josh Petra. The champions
evened the score on a penalty kick executed by Mark Rendel, but the MAC guns
went silent, and a rampant Lauderdale poured on the style. First, a double from
top scorer, Junior Alerte, put LSC in front to stay. Then wave after wave of LSC
attacks ended in goals from Roody Lormeda and a pair of lightening strikes from
Seif Sidky. In the victory, Lauderdale GK Pierre Limage had an unforgettable
debut. He saved two penalty kicks and scored the final goal from the spot
himself, to cap off the

After 20 matches, the Homeless faithful saw LSC boast the best goals differential in the tournament and was promptly given the First Division's "Best Goalkeeper" award. Now, all eyes are on Lauderdale's defense of its Soccer Development League (SDL) title. Stage 1 begins in mid-June and the entire season runs through the end of the year. Adjustments are being made to the squad that finished third in the Gold Coast and no less than first place will be expected this time out. 04-14-2005 - GOLD COAST UNBEATEN CONTINUES, BUT WILL IT BE ENOUGH? It's been six straight games since Lauderdale has lost a match in the Gold Coast First Division and with that mark a chance at their first ever GCSL Championship is in sight. Still, with three ties already this season, those dropped points might do them even after this week's heroic effort against league leaders Boca United. LSC seemed to have 3 points secured when they were surprisingly reduced to 10 men for the last 40 minutes of the match and had to settle for a 3-3 draw. This week Lauderdale travels to the Lantana Sports Complex to face the Palm Beach Pumas. LSC still has 2 games in hand. 03-14-2005 - LAUDERDALE HEADS INTO NATIONAL CUP TIE ON WINNING STREAK After two successive Gold Coast First Division victories, LSC looks solid heading into the National Cup Florida Region Final against the St. Pete Kickers this Sunday at Mills Pond Park. 03-09-2005 - HALFWAY POINT OF GCSL, NATIONAL CUP LOOMS AHEAD Midway through this season's Gold Coast First Division Championship, LSC have bumbled their way to a decent showing. With two games in hand, Lauderdale's stringent defense has put them in an excellent position to capture their first ever GCSL title. In the next eleven weeks, LSC will have to make good on every opportunity and regain the form they showed in the summer. In other news, Lauderdale's National Cup tie lies a week and a half ahead. The game, to be played Sunday, March 20th will be at Mills Pond Park. 02-07-2005 - LAUDERDALE WOES CONTINUE THROUGH ANOTHER DISMAL PERFORMANCE It was hard to see anything good in this week's 1-2 loss to league cellar dwellers Itamerica, but LSC will have to put the pieces together in one week's time if it wishes to keep their dreams of a Gold Coast Soccer League title alive. This upcoming weekend the Homeless come back to the Mill as they face Palm Beach Pumas in what will fell like a must-win for Lauderdale. Captain Diego Meeroff, who once again struck another free kick from 20 yards out, will have to find some goal scoring help if LSC plans on making any run at silverware this season. 01-31-2005 - LSC REVERSES THE STREAK, BACK ON WINNING TRACK IN THE GCSL Several changes were made to the sides that had suffered defeat in the past two weeks and the changes were evident in helping Lauderdale upset league leaders Soccer Paradise in a decisive 2-0 win at the Mill. Lauderdale used the presence of a new midfield lineup that included two new signings and saw the return of team captain Diego Meeroff to overwhelm the visitors and control the match. The new formation allowed Junior Alerte to play up top where he bedazzled the Soccer Paradise defenders who were lucky only to concede one goal to the Haitian international in the 37th minute. As usual, LSC
squandered many clear-cut chances but
This week, Lauderdale's Homeless travel to FAU to face Itamerica and hope to begin a long streak of successive victories. 01-24-2005 - LAUDERDALE BEGINS NEW YEAR AT ROCK BOTTOM With a brace of defeats to begin 2005, Lauderdale has dug quite a hole for itself in this year's Gold Coast Championship. Given the two losses against Boca Raton sides, LSC now looks forward to league leaders Soccer Paradise if it wishes to get back on the positive side. Lauderdale will most likely have to depend on its staunch defense if it intends to stay in the match against goal happy Soccer Paradise. LSC has allowed only 6 goals in 4 games, which is second best in the first division. Still, problems must be solved if championship dreams are to be fulfilled. 12-27-2004 - LAUDERDALE SOCCER TRAINING RESUMES AFTER HOLIDAY BREAK After a week of rest and celebration it's back to business for the Lauderdale Soccer Club. The "homeless" kick-off practice sessions this Tuesday, the 28th, at Mills Pond Park from 8-10pm, and they will do so every Tuesday and Thursday until we say otherwise. If you go on over to the RESULTS page you'll see an updated slew of matches on tap in Lauderdale's campaign for a first ever Gold Coast Soccer League title. 12-20-2004 - LSC FAILS TO TAKE PRECIOUS AWAY POINTS FROM B.C. UNITED Lauderdale dominated almost the entire 90 minutes this week at Sunview Park, but failed to seize the victory in what was one on the most complete efforts the team has played in a while. After conceding an early goal off a corner kick, LSC responded quickly with a 20 yard rocket from Seif Sidky off an assist by Junior Alerte. Seconds later, B.C. United was awarded a Penalty Kick, for dubious reasons, but for the second match in a row, Matias Massaro's presence was too much for the opposition's P.K. taker. After the penalty shot flew wide, it was all Lauderdale. For 60 minutes or so the B.C. goal was bombarded with efforts but none seemed destined to break the back off the net. In the end, LSC had to settle for a draw that they so certainly did not deserve. 3 points would have been the only consolation, still, Lauderdale goes into the Holiday break unbeaten and touting the best goal differential in the Gold Coast. 12-13-2004 - LAUDERDALE HAS BEST GOLD COAST START EVER The afternoon was chipper. The sky blue. The wind unbearable. Internaxionale F.C. nonexistent. In a match that should have been a tight affair following the two teams last meeting. LSC showed its league counterpart that GCSL play is far different than summer league. When all was said and done, Lauderdale walked off the field with a 5-0 victory and a share of third place in the league with a game in hand. Seif Sidky opened the scoring, and Jacqui DeJuste and Junior Alerte added others to finish the first half 3-0. The only trouble for Lauderdale was an early second half penalty kick awarded to Internaxionale. Yet, the towering figure of goalkeeper Matias Massaro was too much for the opponent as the weak shot sailed wide. Later Sidky and Alerte concluded the damage with superb long range conquests and LSC began its fifth GCSL campaign with its most convincing win yet. Lauderdale's only other opening day victory was last year with a 2-1 win against the Island Strikers. 12-01-2004 - NEW GOLD COAST SEASON SET TO BEGIN Starting Sunday, December 12th, Lauderdale Soccer Club begins its quest for a Gold Coast Soccer League title. The journey begins against Internaxionale F.C. at Mills Pond Park at noon. Visit www.gcsl.org for more information. 11-25-2004 - LAUDERDALE TAKES SDL STAGE 2 TITLE LSC won the Second Stage of the 2004 SDLeague last weekend with a comprehensive victory over PDL Palm Beach Pumas. The final was a close affair for 45 minutes, but just seconds into the final half, Lauderdale broke through with a Seif Sidky header to take the lead. From then on, Lauderdale never looked back. Another strike from Sidky and a goal from Junior Alerte sealed the deal. Now, Lauderdale prepares for the upcoming 2004-05 Gold Coast Soccer League with training sessions at Mills Pond Park (on Powerline between Sunrise and Oakland Park Blvd.) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-10pm. 11-08-2004 - LAUDERDALE PREPARES FOR SDLEAGUE PLAYOFFS AND THE YEAR AHEAD Lauderdale Soccer Club faces AS Boca this weekend in the SDLeague Stage 2 semi-final at Mills Pond Park at 12:00pm. The last meeting of the two teams resulted in a 2-2 draw. Also, Lauderdale is sending out an open call for anyone interested in participating in the Gold Coast, the US National Cup, and other Adult Amateur Tournaments. Training sessions are being held from 8-10pm at Holiday Park (US1 and Sunrise Blvd.) in Fort Lauderdale every Tuesday and Thursday night. Contact Us via e-mail or by phone at: (954) 752-1834. 09-23-2004 - 6-0 VICTORY TO START SDL STAGE 2 Lauderdale began Stage 2 of the Soccer Development League in a more convincing fashion than the last as they pummeled Miami Athletic Club 6-0. With two braces from Junior Alerte and Fausto Ortega, followed up with single tallies from Seif Sidky and Giovany Roncario, LSC had no problems handling Miami AC. LSC's net stalwart Matias Massaro recorded the shutout. Also of note, LSC did all this playing with ten men for most of the match due to a red card. This week, Lauderdale faces Palm Beach Pumas who dispatched Sunset Strikers 4-1. The game will be played at Mills Pond Park on Sunday, September 26th, 2004 at 10:00am. 09-18-2004 - LAUDERDALE STARTS SDL STAGE 2 This week marks the beginning of the SDL Stage 2 as Lauderdale takes on cross-town rivals Miami Athletic Club this Sunday, September 19th, 2004 at noon at newly renovated Mills Pond Park. Mills Pond is conveniently located on Powerline Road in between Oakland Park and Sunrise Boulevards. 09-13-2004 - LAUDERDALE RESUMES TRAINING AFTER TWO WEEK HURRICANE LAYOFF Well, the threats of Hurricanes Frances and Ivan have passed and pitches are ready to be played on again. So starting this Tuesday, September 14th, LSC will restart training seasons from 8-10pm at Holiday Park (US 1 & Sunrise Blvd.) in Fort Lauderdale. Remember sessions are on both Tuesday and Thursday and are open to all. LSC is beginning their preseason training for the upcoming Budweiser Gold Coast Premiership set to start in late November. A variety of warm-up matches and national tournaments will be played up to that time, so Lauderdale is looking to fill up a full quality side. 08-31-2004 - LSC'S DREAM SEASON COMES TO A TEARFUL END In the way no team wishes to end its season, Lauderdale had to face the barrel of the penalty shoot out gun. This time though, the luck of the draw went to arch-rivals American United who ended the Homeless' season with a 4-3 defeat on penalty shoot outs. Lauderdale dominated their semi-final encounter but found themselves down 1-0 earlier on a free kick that took advantage of LSC. Mike Randolph made things level before the half by finishing off a superb play with a left-footed rocket into the back corner of the net. The second half started the same as the first when American took the lead again with another free kick. This time it looked as though there could be no comeback. Yet, with only seconds remaining, Junior Alerte connected with a Diego Meeroff corner kick to tie the affair and send the match into overtime. The overtime session was also dominated buy the Homeless, but no results were made of the stellar play. LSC was also lucky to not concede as their attacking mindset led to 3 American breakaways that LSC goalkeeper Matias Massaro thwarted. All that was left was a penalty kick shoot out and this time LSC was on the losing effort. Still, nothing can be taking away from Lauderdale this season. LSC now looks forward to preparing itself for the strenuous Gold Coast season and several tournaments including the Copa Latina and National Cup. So stay tuned right here, and experience the spirit of soccer through those that bleed it every day. 08-16-2004 - SDLEAGUE COMING TO A CLOSE, NEW SEASON ON THE FRONT, COACHING COURSE AROUND THE CORNER Lauderdale faces one more regular season test this week before it prepares itself for a semi-final in the Soccer Development League. In all respects, the semi-final should be against arch-rivals American United who held off LSC earlier in the season 2-3. All SDLeague matches are still being played at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. Concurrently, Lauderdale still opens its training sessions, held every Tuesday and Thursday at Holiday Park in Ft. Lauderdale from 8pm to 10pm, to anyone willing and wanting to be a part of the beautiful game. In other news, Lauderdale's elite coaching staff are planning another coaching course to get local managers involved and licensed to coach at higher levels. While nothing is set in stone, the course should go on in December and it will mark the 5th time that the LSC Coaches have held the course. 08-10-2004 - THOSE STATS, OH HOW THEY LIE In all statistical categories LSC would have run out winners this Sunday against league leaders Club Fit, but in football only goals count. Inevitably Lauderdale, who this season have produced fewer goals than in any other campaign, have failed again to find victory when it comes so close. With two matches remaining before playoff time, team managers are boggled over the team's lack of fire power. Add on to that the departure of several key players due to collegiate responsibility (and let us not forget the injury woes) and you can see the drama begin to unfold. The defense of their SDLeague title will come at a greater cost this time around, but Lauderdale is saying they want that challenge. This week the Homeless take on bottom dwellers PSN before finishing off the season against lowly River Plate Select. 08-01-2004 - SOMEHOW SLOPPY WET JUST FEELS SUPER GOOD
It only took 47 minutes and it only Look out for the report and a new team photo in Saturday's (August 7th) El Nuevo Herald as they document one of the SDLeague's and South Florida's premier soccer clubs. Lauderdale now sees Team Club Fit in its next SDLeague fixture. The match-up pits the best two teams in the league and the battle begins at 11:30 AM, Sunday August 8th at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. 07-26-2004 - HEART BREAK HITS THE HOMELESS In what has become one of the most intense rivalries in South Florida, last Sunday's match between LSC and American United added another chapter to the legacy of this heated affair. With a relationship that holds two SDLeague finals and numerous other encounters under its belt, Lauderdale and American are two teams that hold nothing back when the opening whistle is blown. In this meeting it was American who was victorious, scoring three unanswered goals before holding on for dear life as LSC pounded their penalty area in what ended up a 2-3 defeat for LSC. The game began with brilliance and brutality from both sides. Jacqui Dejuste opened the scoring for Lauderdale capping a play that swung the point attack through 5 players before finding the back of the net. American responded quickly with a nice play of their own to level the match. Then suddenly the intensity of the affair turned into 2 red cards, one for each team, before American ran out to a 3-1 lead early in the second half. The last 25 minutes was all Lauderdale. A goal from Seif Sidky put the game in reach but clear misses and several goal mouth scrambles could not bring LSC level, and the homeless had to drop their first match of the season. Not too much to worry about though, Lauderdale remains in second place with four matches to go and are still in contention to win their third consecutive SDL title. 07-19-2004 - FOUR GAME WIN STREAK ON THE LINE AGAINST AMERICAN LSC kept their position in the SDLeague this week with a convincing yet unemotional 4-1 victory over Sunset Strikers. A pair of braces from Junior Alerte and newcomer Sadiq White provided ample cushion for the performance. The match saw the return of veteran net minder Jimmy Middleton who looked stellar after a few months away. Lauderdale will face its toughest test of the tournament this week against old rivals American United starting at 1:30 PM, Sunday July 25th at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah. 07-11-2004 - LAUDERDALE DOWNS MIAMI UNITED Once again the SDLeague witnessed a Lauderdale Soccer Club victory and a brace of Sidky goals. The league's leading tally-maker increased his total to 6 goals in just three games. Junior Alerte, who added another goal and two assists, made the match an easy 3-1 victory for the defending champions. Although LSC controlled most of the match and never looked to lose their lead, they were troubled by injuries on all fronts. Currently, LSC has 2 goalkeepers and 2 defenders on injured reserve and are looking for players to step in and fill the roles. 07-04-2004 - LSC MOVES TRAINING GROUNDS Please be advised that from now on Lauderdale will be holding training and practice sessions at Holiday Park instead of Mills Pond. The change is due in part to the efforts needed to restore Mills Pond to proper playing conditions. Holiday Park is located just south of the Sunrise Blvd and US 1 intersection in Ft. Lauderdale. Practice sessions will remain on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 pm to 10:00 pm. 06-27-2004 - ANOTHER WIN IN THE WIN COLUMN FOR LSC Despite playing in spurts, the Homeless kept a perfect record in the SDLeague to keep hope alive for their 3rd consecutive title. Goals by Sidky and Beceiro were cherries on the day of goalkeeper Matias Masaro. Not only did Masaro post another shutout, but he did so in splendid form. His work in between the pipes was evident on his 67th minute save of a River Plate penalty kick that gave Lauderdale the victory they were looking for. SDLeague play resumes in two weeks as LSC faces a stern Miami United FC side after the Independence Day break. 06-20-2004 - LAUDERDALE'S SDLEAGUE DEBUT VICTORY The SDLeague 2-time defending champions Lauderdale get off to a triumphant start in their SDLeague debut this week. With 3 goals from striker Sidky, and strikes from DeJuste, Nassi, and "Papo" Beceiro, LSC finished off Miami Athletic Club by the score 6 to 1. 06-07-2004 - LSC HEADS TO ALABAMA Three Lauderdale players have been selected to play with the FSSA Men's Adult Select Team at the Region III Select Team Tournament this weekend in Huntsville, AL.
