09-24-2006 - LAUDERDALE SOCCER CLUB, SDL CHAMPS!

Lauderdale Soccer Club grabbed yet another Soccer Development Azi Khan Memorial trophy with a 3-1 win over streaky Palm Beach Pumas.

The match started as most finals do, uneasy as both teams were trying to feel the other out. Not too much happened until LSC brought on two first half substitutes on within 5 minutes were ahead 2-0.

The Pumas must have been stunned as they went into the halftime down a double without really giving up much.

In the second half, LSC started with 5 minutes of continuous possession that ended in a PB Pumas goal. Against the run of play the Pumas changed the dynamic of the game and put Lauderdale on their heels.

So much so were LSC on edge that they lost a man to red card ejection. The final 25 minutes were of tension and anxiety.

Yet, LSC eased all that with a smooth offensive salvo that put the game out of reach.

One round of games left to go and it's anyone's guess to how the 6 teams of SDLeague's Stage 2 will end up in the standings. With AS Boca dropping their first game last week and facing LSC this week, the SDL newcomers could end up out the playoffs, but then again so could any team.

Internaxionale gained their first win last week against the Sunset Strikers and will be looking to up their place in the seedings against cellar dwellers Miami Athletic Club.

10-21-04 - AS BOCA Sees Chance to Capture Stage 2 Supremacy

In yet another convincing victory, SDLeague newcomers AS Boca have dusted off Miami Athletic Club and now stand to leap frog league leaders LSC this weekend as they host the Palm Beach Pumas while LSC lay idle.

The Boca side have accumulated 7 points in their first three games and will face a Pumas team who had to give everything they had to salvage a 1 all draw with Internaxionale.

Lauderdale, however, failed to extend their numerical advantage in the standings by coming up on the short end of 3-0 shellacking by the Sunset Strikers.

10-12-2004 - Lauderdale Soccer Club Jumps Out to Stage 2 Lead

With its third convincing victory in as many games, three-time SDLeague Champions Lauderdale Soccer Club stumbled to a 5-2 victory over Internaxionale and thus take sole command of top spot here in Stage 2.

Lauderdale has managed to stay atop the table by producing an astonishing output of goals. Almost scoring 5 goals per contest, LSC look to forwards Junior Alerte and Seif Sidky (who both have 5 goals each to their Stage 2 account) to keep up the production in future games.

In other matches, both AS Boca and the Palm Beach Pumas cruised to easy victories over the Sunset Strikers and Miami Athletic Club, respectively.

This week, we visit the Mill as Lauderdale will take its unblemished record against the Sunset Strikers who are looking to rebound after their slip-up against AS Boca.

08-31-2004 - Team Club Fit, American United to Play for Title

Team Club Fit have reached the final game of the SDLeague in spectacular fashion. Club Fit have played a total of 10 matches thus far and have yet to concede a loss. Their will and testament though will be tested as feisty American United will come into the championship match will revenge on their mind after falling to Club Fit 2-1 earlier in the season.

American plugged into the final with a penalty kick shoot out win over 3-time defending champions Lauderdale Soccer Club. Two free kick goals by American seemed to be enough until LSC tied the match in second half injury time to send the semifinal into overtime. Two scoreless 15 minute halves were played before soccer's version of Russian Roulette was needed to determine a winner. American went on to win 4-3 in the shoot out.

In the second semifinal, Team Club Fit needed a last minute goal of themselves to put them into title contention. In a tightly played affair, both Club Fit and Miami United never found themselves with any clear chances on goal. The tie was broken though as a lapse of concentration by Miami gave Club Fit the window of opportunity they needed to make the difference.

The final match has yet to be scheduled as Labor Day approaches. but please stay tuned to SDLeague.com for more information as it arrives.

08-24-2004 - The Line is Drawn, 4 Teams Left to Play for Glory

Hialeah, FL - The seeds have been drawn and another season of SDLeague play is at an end. Two games at week's end will decide the teams who will vie for the Azi Kahn Memorial Trophy in two weeks time.

Undefeated Team Club Fit leads the charge. Without faltering in its first nine matches, it will put up its unbeaten strike against Miami United FC. Miami U can thank Miami Athletic Club for drawing with Sunset Strikers and thus eliminating Sunset from the playoffs. Club Fit and Miami U played this past week but only 45 minutes were played as inclement weather forced the match to end at a 1-1 draw.

In the other semi-final, a match with more history than most, Lauderdale Soccer Club faces American United. LSC comes into the game with the league's best defense only allowing 10 goals in its nine matches. American boasts the strongest side of the four teams, tallying 40 goals in their league campaign. It will be a decisive and hard fought battle.

To the other 6 competitors of SDLeague, all we can say is that it has been a memorable season. It was a surprising run for first timers Sunset while it was a disappointing tournament for River Plate's two teams.

Stay tuned until next week when we cover the two semi-finals and preview the final of the 2004 SDLeague Stage 1.

08-16-2004 - Team Club Fit Stay Undefeated, 4th Place Unknown

In the match of the day, pitting two undefeated sides against one another, the SDLeague witnessed a tiresome affair that saw Team Club Fit escape unscathed and confident heading into the last week of play.

American United were poised with interesting and exciting play and plenty of possession but could never pack the striking power when necessary. Club Fit however made the most of their minimal attacking chances by tallying on a penalty kick and a free kick to come from behind and stay atop the championship.

In other league play, fifth place Sunset made the SDLeague aware of its bid for playoff contention by beating forth place Miami United in a 4-3 goal fest. The Sunset win puts them just two points behind Miami United who can not afford any more mistakes before season's end.

Teams now have only 13 days to finish out their regular matches as a few games need to be played due to severe weather conditions throughout the championship. American and Miami United need to complete their remaining matches to secure their playoff positions.

Keep checking this site to find out who plays when and where, as there will be a load of games played in the next two weeks.

08-09-2004 - 2 Weeks Left, No Place Secure Among League's Best

The preordained match of the day lived up to its potential as number 1 and number 2 battled to a thrilling and controversial result. Team Club Fit held on to a narrow 1-0 victory over LSC, as their early goal became the difference in the torrid affair.

Accordingly, American United jumped into second place with their victory over Miami Athletic Club and now face Team Club Fit this weekend in what should be yet another epic battle for tournament supremacy. That match concludes week 8 of the SDLeague, as it starts at 5:30 PM this Sunday at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah.

Now to more pressing concerns. No playoff spot is secure as league leaders Club Fit finish off their league run against second place American and forth place Miami United. Both American and Miami United have a game in hand against their top four adversaries, yet they must be aware of Sunset and Marseille who are lurking in fifth place.

08-02-2004 - Caution Flag Not Necessary, Top Teams Still Shine

This weekend the rain seemed to go without end. Lightning and thunder struck as if nothing could stand in its way. Just like the league's top three sides: Team Club Fit, LSC, and American, nothing could stop the hurt.

Without mercy nor remorse, the league's main contenders showed off their talents and their scoring ability before league officials had to stop the contests on account of the rain.

Team Club Fit began the day with an efficient 8-1 win over lowly Palm Springs North. That was followed by American stomping all over Sunset by 7 goals to 3. Lauderdale then got up on Marseille 5-1 at halftime before lightning came down and forced the SDLeague's sixth week to a close.

With 3 weeks to go, it seems we have four teams closing on 4th place and a coveted semi-final birth. This week's matches include number one Team Club Fit versus number two LSC. The game starts at 11:30 AM and shouldn't disappoint.

07-26-2004 - Playoff Teams Emerge as SDL Goes Down the Stretch

The time has come to assess the SDLeague's stage one progress and 4 teams stand alone to vie for the coveted Azi Kahn Memorial Trophy. 5 points separate fourth-ranked Miami United FC and fifth place Sunset with only four matches remaining. It seems that if lower half teams want to make the knock out stages, now would be the time to start kicking in the wins.

Thus far, 151 goals have been scored in the 22 matches that have been played. Miami United leads the league in goals for with 29 goals in only 5 games. American and Lauderdale, who played to a spirited 3-2 match in the game of the week, share the rights to the tournament's best defense, only allowing 6 goals in their previous encounters.

This week we will see the mathematical chance of teams making the playoffs fade off into oblivion as those who vie for semifinal position make their mark on what should be an entertaining final month in the SDLeague.

07-19-2004 - Middle of the Table Shakedown; Halfway Point Nears

Keep your tongues rolled in gentlemen, SDLeague's Stage 1 is almost at the halfway point at there are a few surprises lurking in the middle of the table. This week saw two dramatic ties as well as two secure victories giving the top two squads a comfortable cushion going into week 5.

In an enthralling match to open up the day, a ten-man Miami Athletic Club dominated Marseille after conceding two goals, a penalty kick, and after seeing their goalkeeper ejected for serious foul play. Going into halftime down 2-0, Miami Athletic Club came out roaring. They hit the woodwork 4 times, before drawing one back late midway through the second half. The equalizer came moments later and Marseille finished the game content on stealing one point.

The game of the day, though, went to the see-saw battle between league standard American United and league upstarts River Plate WBU. Despite not having won a single match yet in the SDL, River has impressed most and almost came away with three points here. Two more goals from Jair Reinoso (which gives him 6 for the season) wasn't enough as American tied the match in injury time to salvage a draw.

American now has to rebound when it faces second place Lauderdale next week when the two teams meet in what is sure to be the game of the week at 1:30 PM.

06-27-2004 - SDLeague Takes Shape

Two match days down and teams are starting to surface as champion contenders. 40 goals were scored this weekend, so keepers beware. Once again, River Plate WBU provided the game of the week with a tight-knit foray with undefeated Lauderdale Soccer Club (LSC). The teams played to a scoreless first half but LSC took command with 2 goals in ten minutes after the restart. The rest of the game was a River Plate onslaught on the LSC goal. Only a missed penalty and several close misses kept River off the scoresheet.

Remember this week we celebrate Independence Day, so SDLeague play will continue on July 11th.

06-20-2004 - One Weekend Down in the SDLeague!

Match Day 1 started off to a roaring pace as three teams cruised to easy victories. The game of the day went to Sunset Strikers' astonishing comeback tie against River Plate West Broward. River Plate went on to an early 2-0 lead in the first half, but let Sunset Strikers creep back and steal the point.
